چکیده مقاله:

Background Down syndrome screening at first-trimester may cause a higher false positive rate in pregnant patients who have undergone assisted reproductive technologies (ART). Combining the second largest series of biophysical and biochemical tests in the first trimester of pregnancy after ART is mentioned in few studies. MaterialsAndMethods Ghisoni et al explored that NT measurement between ART pregnancies and matched controls was not significantly different. PAPP-A was reduced but it was not significantly lower in ART pregnancies. Free beta- HCG and PAPP-A were measured on dried blood spots and converted to MoMs. Results Nuchal translucency (NT) was measured by certified operators. Free beta-HCG was the only analyte that resulted in significantly higher values in ART pregnancies versus controls. No significant differences were found for biochemical values observed between ICSI and IVF patients. NT measurements were not affected by ART pregnancies. In another study that was performed in Italy, results were consistent with other reported series Conclusion The algorithm used to calculate the relative risk after the combined tests should not be changed until the detection rate of trisomies in ART pregnancies is not fully disclosed by larger series

I-20: ART - Children How Are They Doing Lessons from Research

Worldwide there are over 4,000,000 ART conceived individuals. As fertility rates ‘fall’ in some countries use of ART is increasing with rates of 1.8% of live births in the UK, 4.4% in Denmark etc. Although still the single largest threat to future ART born children is being born twin, triplet or more, other research shows that there is good grounds for monitoring of the health of these children...

Increased reproductive success of women after prenatal undernutrition

BACKGROUND Prenatal exposure to the Dutch famine is associated with an increased risk of chronic degenerative disease. We now investigate whether prenatal famine exposure affected reproductive success. METHODS We assessed reproductive success (number of children, number of twins, age at delivery, childlessness) of men and women born around the time of the Dutch famine of 1944-1945 in the Wilh...

Extending recent work that has emphasized the presence of multiple audiences with different concerns, we demonstrate that considering audience specificity leads to an improved understanding of reputation effects. Using data on emerging artists in the field of cont...

Copy-number variation and false positive prenatal aneuploidy screening results.

Investigations of noninvasive prenatal screening for aneuploidy by analysis of circulating cell-free DNA (cfDNA) have shown high sensitivity and specificity in both high-risk and low-risk cohorts. However, the overall low incidence of aneuploidy limits the positive predictive value of these tests. Currently, the causes of false positive results are poorly understood. We investigated four pregna...

Why are thalassaemia patients born when prenatal screening is available?

Thalassaemia major is a classic example of a disease that is preventable by prenatal diagnosis. Although the technology was introduced to Hong Kong more than a decade ago, new patients are continuously seen in the Hong Kong Administrative Region. This retrospective review concerns children who were diagnosed to have severe beta-thalassaemic syndromes at the Tuen Mun Hospital from 1990 to 1996. ...
